I was surfing through my Facebook page today as I tend to do often. A post by one of my friends stood out to me today. My friend Jennifer and her family will be involved in the Virginia Special Olympics this year and I could not pass up the chance to share the information with all of you. Jennifer’s Todd works for a local office of Wells Fargo Bank and will be participating in the annual Polar Plunge. Here is the link to Todd’s website for the annual Special Olympics Virginia’s Polar Plunge ® Winter Festival 2010.
This is Todd’s second year participating in the Polar Plunge to support Special Olympics in hopes of raising money to support this value resource of our community. A little background on the “plunge” may help you to understand why this event is so important:
The Polar Plunge® Winter Festival is Special Olympics Virginia’s largest fundraiser, attracting more than 10,000 people to an otherwise deserted beachfront in February. Individuals and teams, alongside our athletes and thousands of community members, experience heartwarming and bone chilling extremes as they take the plunge into the icy Atlantic Ocean in the height of winter!
Find out more here.
I don’t often request that people support and donate their hard earned money, however, this is a special groups in our community that deserves our support. If you can, please donate to support Todd as he goes for a swim in the great Atlantic in February! It will warm your heart to support this year-round international program of sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Here is a little video reminder of why this group of people are important to all communities.
Please donate, or better yet come out and participate!
